Kristina Carssow’s love of teaching produced a big reward for her this Valentine’s Day. During a packed school assembly this morning, she was showered with an outpouring of love from students and faculty as she learned that she will receive a $25,000 teaching prize.This educator from the Pflugerville Independent School District is the recipient of the 2011-2012 Milken Educator Award. Carssow is the only Texas educator to receive the award this year.

On Tuesday, Feb. 7, the Texas Education Agency opened the Expenditure Reporting (ER) system to allow corrections to ARRA Section 1512 quarterly reporting data submitted for the quarter that ended Dec. 31, 2011. The continuous corrections period will close March 2 at 5 p.m. This corrections period is provided to accommodate local education agencies (LEAs) and fiscal agents that want to revise previously submitted reports for the quarter that ended Dec. 31, 2011. No action is necessary unless the LEA or fiscal agent has identified data that needs to be corrected. Revisions may only be made to data submitted for the period that ended Dec. 31, 2011. All corrections must be submitted by 5 p.m. Central Time, March 2, 2012.

The State Board of Education today gave preliminary approval to revised curriculum standards for mathematics. It also approved a revised instructional materials adoption schedule.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is pleased to announce the launch of its new automated system for ordering GED® certificates. GED test takers and certificate holders can now immediately download and print their official GED certificates - complete with test scores - by visiting http://www.texged.com. To further increase the level of customer service, local GED testing centers across the state will now be providing direct customer service, responding to, and supporting GED testing customers and will serve as the primary information resource for all GED test inquiries.
