This page describes Subchapter E charters. These charters are sometimes called university charters.

The commissioner of education may grant open-enrollment charters to public colleges and universities. These schools must operate on a campus of the college or university or in the same county as the college or university. See Texas Education Code, Chapter 12, Subchapter E §12.152.

Applying for a Subchapter E Charter

SBOE committees meet Oct. 20

Committees of the State Board of Education will meet on Monday, Oct. 20. The Ad Hoc Committee on the Long-Range for Public Education will meet at 8 a.m. and the Committee of the Full Board will convene at 10 a.m. Both meetings are in room 1-104 of the Travis Building at 1701 N. Congress Ave. in Austin. The agenda is online and the meeting will be webcast.

SBOE names 10 businesses as Employers for Education Excellence

The State Board of Education today named 10 Texas businesses as the 2014 Employers for Education Excellence (EEE).  From the U.S. Army to a grocery store, these employers and their staffs are recognized for their ongoing support and commitment to Texas public schools.

TEA, Texas School Safety Center partner for Oct. 19-25 Safe Schools Week

 The Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC) today renewed their annual partnership for the 2014 Texas Safe Schools Week, Oct. 19 - 25. TEA and TxSSC share a mutual goal of assuring all public schools are places where students, parents, teachers and administrators feel secure during the course of every school day.

2013-2014 AP exam, SAT participation rates for Texas public school students increase

Data released today by the College Board shows that 2013-2014 participation rates for Advanced Placement (AP) exams and SAT for students enrolled in Texas public schools once again increased over the previous school year.
