Test Fees
For the 2012-2013 school year, the TEA will provide a $30 test fee subsidy for each AP and IB exam taken by Texas public school students with demonstrated financial need.
The 82nd Texas Legislature, First Called Session, 2011, amended Texas Education Code (TEC) §28.053(h) (http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/ED/htm/ED.28.htm#28.053) to provide AP/IB test fee subsidies only for Texas public school students who demonstrate financial need. Under the statute, to be eligible for the subsidy students must (1) have taken an authorized AP/IB course or be recommended by their principals to take the exam and (2) demonstrate financial need.
The United States Department of Education (USDE) offers the opportunity for states to apply for a grant that provides an additional subsidy for students who demonstrate financial need. TEA does not know when the award for this grant will be made or how much money the state may be awarded. Schools and districts may wish to take this into consideration when determining how much money to charge their students for AP and IB examinations.
Teacher Training Reimbursement 2013
In support of the AP and IB programs, the teacher training reimbursement (TTR) program allows the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to reimburse districts for the cost of TEA-approved AP/IB or pre-AP/IB training up to $450 for each qualified teacher. The amount of the teacher training reimbursement for 2013 will be dependent upon the total number of eligible applicants and the amount of funding available after the payment of exam fee subsidies.
