Texas public schools employ more than 320,000 teachers plus about 70,000 additional professional staff members such as principals, central office administrators and others. The Texas Education Agency provides a wide array of services that help educators do their jobs. Those functions include accrediting educator certification programs, issuing teaching certificates, distributing curriculum standards and textbooks and providing standardized student tests. This web portal attempts to bring together information educators need to function effectively and efficiently as they work with the state’s 4.7 million students.

Texas public school enrollment climbs again in 2013-2014

Enrollment in Texas public schools continues to climb, growing by 19 percent over the past decade and by more than 59 percent over the past 26 years, according to a new report released today by the Texas Education Agency.

Commissioner Williams names board of managers for revoked Honors Academy charter

Commissioner of Education Michael Williams today announced his appointments to a three-member board of managers for the liquidation of assets and other specific issues related to the revocation and closure of Honors Academy and the seven campuses operating under the charter as public, accredited schools.

SBOE adopts instructional materials

The State Board of Education voted today to adopt new instructional products for social studies, fine arts and high school mathematics courses.  This action will make 316 state-reviewed and approved instructional products available for use in Texas schools beginning with the 2015-2016 school year.
